Last night little A. was up frequently with nightmares. I wonder if it stems from back to school anxiety.
Usually, when she wakes up, she is afraid of falling asleep and have the nightmare again. One of my mommy tricks is to tell her to think of a way to turn the nightmare into something funny. This idea is inspired by my favorite song to belt out around the house, "Take that frown and turn it upside and you'll find yours, I know oh oh." (find your laughing place) She usually can make her nightmare into something good when it recurs.
Anyway, she asked me what I had nightmares about. I said my nightmare is a bear chases me through my grandmother's house. She said next time I have the nightmare to stop running and ask the bear what he wants. and have him answer that he wants me to teach him and his friends how to scrapbook. That totally cracks me up. I went back to bed laughing.
I was pretty grumpy about being awake in the middle of the night. But A.'s goofy sense of humor definately turned my frown upside down. What a silly girl!
